An original pen-and-ink drawing done from life by an old friend, Wyatt Eaton, whom Stevenson had first known in France in the 1870s.
This art was produced while Stevenson was staying in New Jersey in 1888, shortly before he sailed to the South Seas where he died in 1894 while living in Samoa.
This drawing is the Museum's favorite study of Stevenson.
